ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS

YEARNING for musical inspiration, but TOO BUSY to take a class? Get an in-depth jumpstart on a musical skill or style in one single, fun & focused, afternoon.

Take one, two, or all three workshops.

Feb 23, 12-6 pm   $75

Take a chance and throw your thoughts and feelings into the air . . . .

. . . when they land, shape them into songs that capture what is inside you and touch other people. Communication between one person and another is a challenging, fun, and wonderful process. Add music, voice and words and you have a vehicle that can reach and penetrate people deeply.

On this day we will learn how to

  • Craft melodies
  • Develop and craft lyrics
  • Discover new sources for inspiration
  • How to set words to music
  • How to work in collaboration with others
  • Fun ways to break through song writers block
  • How to write songs for different genres, including: Blues, Jazz, Standards, Humorous Songs, Dance Songs and Musical Theater
 
 
 
 

March 16, 12-6 pm   $75

Take a walk in a far off land where music is as abundant as the air we breathe. On this day we will dive into music from Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

  • Learn classic fiddle tunes
  • How to accompany and do fingerpicking arrangements of fiddle tunes using DADGAD and dropped D tunings
  • How to write your own fiddle tunes

 





  • Build a medley of tunes for perfomance and practice
  • Expand on your chord knowledge: Learn chord substitutions to make your backup come alive.
  • Picking patterns for jigs, reels and hornpipes
  • Develop sensitivity to the people you are playing with, whether you are a soloist or an accompanist.
  • Exercises to improve rhythm and develop new rhythmic spice

Spend the day learning traditional Bluegrass songs and instrumentals while playing in a supportive ensemble

  • How to learn tunes by ear
  • Exercises that help develop strength, agility, precision and speed for flat picking
